"I was very fortunate to grow up in a family that valued singing, and that sang together - ordinary, everyday singing: doing the dishes, riding in the car, making up songs and creating harmonies. I believe that one of the most powerful things that we human beings can do - to move towards each other, to connect with each other, to create community, to build strong relationships – is sing with each other.
It’s clear to me that any time human beings are singing with each other, we are living the answer to the question "How do we make the world a better place?"
That belief has led Joey to many musical involvements:
Co-creator, with friend Mo Field (Stockholm, Sweden) of theharmonyrainbow, a yahoo discussion group for gays and lesbians in the barbershop community worldwide
Director of the first Young Women in Harmony (YWIH) chorus on the Vancouver lower mainland, “Somethin’ Casual”, which introduced many young women to the
fun of singing barbershop
“Sounds of Christmas” a cappella chorus (2005)
“Flying Solo”, a series of solo-singing sessions for women (2006)
Founding director (1995 - 2008) of the a cappella mixed-voice community chorus, Soundscape
Musical director of five productions with Applause! Musicals in Concert, including Nine, Dear World, 70 Girls 70, On the Twentieth Century and 50 Million Frenchmen
